Natchez Trace
The Emerald Mound is just a few miles up the Natchez Trace from Natchez, which is hardly a fraction of its ultimate journey to Nashville. Mom and I drove up it to see the mound before heading back, but we were able to see some of the original route, from long before it was a paved road. It is one of the South's great routes, since there are no trucks allowed and only one gas station, just rural splendor for several hundred miles.
