The Windward Coast
|
The trade winds blowing onto Hawaii come from the east, so this part of Oahu is particularly lush. The drive up the coast is one a two-lane road twisting and turning around each lagoon, through the forests, and by ramshackle houses right on the water. Eleanor's and my last night was spent with Lorna at Bellows Beach, once an Army Air Force Station during World War II, and now a recreation center where one can rent cabins and spend time at the beach. The sand is as fine as talcum powder, and since we were staying so close, we awoke early to see the sunrise by the water.
