The far southwest of Scotland is not what you'd think of when you think of Scotland (at least for an American). Not too many mountains, with lots of farms and open spaces with trees here and there. It is beautiful, though, especially the coast where you can see the islands in the distance and even jaunt off to Ireland if you so choose.
