I went here with my parents about a month before the Berlin Wall fell in October 1989 and came back the following spring. On a related note, check out my photos of East Germany.

The Berlin Wall a month before it was to fall. If you went too close to it, the East German guards would shoot you. Checkpoint Charlie, the place one must go through to get from West and East Berlin The Wall six months after it fell. Notice that it isn't smooth anymore.
