My End of May Travels
|
After my semester in Paris, I traveled for about a week and a half across Europe. The theme? About the only thing in common was that I headed east from the Atlantic Ocean to the Adriatic Sea. I started out in the Basque Country on the French and Spanish border, staying in Biarritz, France and traveling over to gorgeous San Sebastián, Spain on a day trip. From there, I headed over to Chamonix, near the Italian border. There I ascended Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, and taking a cable car ride over a glacier to the Italian border. Aosta, just over the border in Italy, was next. Lots of Roman ruins in this region that has historically greater ties with France than Italy. Then, on to San Marino, one of the oldest countries in the world, and atop a mountain, nestled in the Apennine Mountains. It was very touristy, though. My final stop was the Italian city nearest to San Marino, Rimini. A nice big beach on the Adriatic, with a classically Italian old town - churches, peeling stucco, and good restaurants! Then back to Paris, with plenty of memories of a good trip across Europe.
